First is the kids & my journey from Wa. state to TX earlier this summer. We took the long way on our journey. Traveling East first from WA over to WI, and then South towards TX.
Here is a pic of us leaving the mountains behind:
The kids & I stopped at Little Bighorn National Monument on our way to Mt. Rushmore. It felt good to get out of the car & walk around for a bit.
Hard to see, but there is a feather drifting in the wind under the horse with no rider:
We mad it to Mt. Rushmore just in time for the sun to start setting. Here the kids are before the flag walkway:
The 3 of us being sill for a picture at the mountain. The kids did earn their Jr. Ranger badges in record time. That was a LONG day & we had another big day on the road ahead of us.
Obligatory stop at Kopp's Custard on our way south past Milwaukee. It was the kids first time having custard & theirs was my favorite from our time when we lived in Wi.:
North of Memphis we met my sister to visit a Kids museum. The kids got to climb in this helicopter:
They were able to view fish in a tank from this under the tank viewing area:
The also got the chance to get out of the car & just be kids playing on a playground:
Leah worked on & completed her first sewing project with my sister's help:
We finally made it to TX just in time for the movers to come and bring all of our household goods from Wa. Once we got unpacked & settled in a bit more we started to do activities in our community like this one. The library had a talk on animals in this area of TX presented by a local ranger. The kids were allowed to touch the hides & bones she had on display when the talk was done:
We also got out for a date night where Marc tried to take on The Terminator at one of the local movie theaters. Marc won:
The kids went into the wilderness at VBS this summer:
One of the best things about our house we rented in TX this summer was that we have a small pool in the backyard. This was fun for all of us. Marc even took a break to join us from time to time. Here are a few action shots I took one day:
Before we knew it, it was time for Ian's birthday in August. I had a groupon for the kids to do some archery so we went to a local range for them to shoot some arrows on his big day. Leah wants to go again she loved it so much. Ian, maybe not, but he wound up cutting himself a little bit on one of the arrows so maybe he will give it a try again later.
One last selfie the kids decided to take on their own:
It was a jam packed summer with the move and getting adjusted to being in our new home. Longer post than what we usually do, but I figured I'd do one big post instead of a bunch of a little ones.
I'll try to get a fall post put together soon.
Catherine
